Our History

The University of Cologne has been represented at international Model United Nations conferences since 2010 when a small group of students went to Taipei, Taiwan, to participate in Harvard WorldMUN.

The delegation to WorldMUN 2012, which took place in Vancouver, Canada, still was mainly organised privately by a small group of interested students. One of them, Nathan Ishar, became so interested in Model United Nations, that he decided to establish the format and the University of Cologne and give more students the opportunity to become engaged.

In June 2012 Model United Nations became officially part of the European Law Students’ Association, but was not exclusive to members of the law faculty.

With OxiMUN 2012 and a broader advertising which took place in most faculties, we gathered a team of 30 students interested in international relations and the United Nations, from the faculty of law, medicine, economics and social sciences.

By now, the Cologne MUN Society is independent from ELSA and has gathered a team of 45 students who travel all over the world to participate in simulations. We’ve been to London, Edinburgh, Paris, Hamburg, Maastricht, Tel Aviv, and Seoul, among others.
